We have all heard of doctors and lawyers, who leave the desk for the greener pastures of wine making. But have you heard of a chemist turner winemaker, surely not such a leap of faith? Well now you have, introducing Peter Logan of Logan Wines, one of Australia's most exciting and interesting young wine labels. Peter personifies the new wave of winemakers from the Central Ranges of NSW who are pioneering and forging ahead with interesting varieties from Orange and Mudgee. Logan produces wines under three labels, the eponymous and premium Logan range consists of traditional varieties and blends. While the Weemala selection of quirky and approachable wines include some of the more unusual European styles. The third label, Apple Tree Flat, consists of great quality wines at very approachable prices and allow for some Logan indulgence everyday.
Logan wines is based in The Central Ranges wine Zone in New South Wales, this area comprises of the wine regions of Mudgee and Orange. Both these areas are fast developing a reputation for producing wines of super-premium quality. Logan makes wines from grapes grown in both Mudgee and Orange. Logan wines was first setup in 1997 and has evolved steadily over the years, with a stylish new cellar door setup in Mudgee only recently. Peter Logan had two ambitions, to make great wine and great cheese. To be honest we are pleased he concentrated on the former because his wines are imbued with character and delicacy. The Logan brand has cleverly put Mudgee and Orange on the map by producing a wide range of wines that over deliver on value and flavour.
