Quinta Do Soque
Situated on the left bank of the Torto River, in the municipality of São João da Pesqueira, Quinta do Soque is an estate covering around 20 hectares, 17 of which are vineyards.
With a privileged location in the Douro Delimited Region, it has been in the possession of the Vicente family for over 20 years. Just like the great estates of the Douro, its origin dates back to distant times (the name Soque comes from the transitive verb sovar, which means to press, flatten, squeeze, trample, tread). Important investments made over the last years the modernisation of vineyards and vinification facilities, thereby guaranteeing the production of high quality table wines, such as Quinta do Soque Reserva Tinto and Quinta do Soque Tinto. Putting in practice all the investments associated with the passion with which the wines are made led to the recognition of Quinta do Soque in the national and international winegrowing markets. The decision to modernise Quinta do Soque's vineyards was made in 1990, after performing studies on which varieties are the most suitable for the location's unique and unrepeatable ecological conditions.
The first replantation then took place on a plot of 5 hectares halfway up a slope facing the south with known potentials, called "Soque". The vines were planted in the beginning of 1992 and a decision was made not to produce any quantities for five years in order to privilege only the plant's vegetative development. This practice enabled a perfect establishment of the vines and yielded a first harvest in 2003 with an exceptional concentration and extract. In 1996, the second phase of replanting the vines was underway on another 12 hectares. Thereby, Quinta do Soque's vineyards extended over a total area of 17 hectares. In addition to the Touriga Nacional variety, some of the noblest Portuguese varieties were used: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and TintaBarroca. The year of 2005 saw the construction of a vinification plant with state-of-the-art equipment so that no conditions would be lacking for the production of wines of great quality.
