Willems Willems & Hofmann

The June 2006 wedding of Carolin and Jürgen Hofmann married not only two individuals, but their respective parents' wine estates, and most importantly the very different wine cultures of the Saar and Rhinehessen as well. Their shared philosophical approach to producing world-class wines has resulted in a one-of-a-kind bridge: two winegrowing regions, one location. A tremendous challenge best summed up in a passing comment: "Uns werd ned langweilig! ('It's never boring around here!')."

The shared winegrowing estate is located in a modern new building erected in Jürgen's home town of Appenheim. It houses the cellar, warehouse and tasting room, as well as the family's residence where they live and work with their daughter Johanna, son Paul and baby Helena.

Willems Willems

Traditionally led by the women of the family, the Willems winegrowing estate is now in its fifth generation. The family-owned-and-run operation began as a mixed farm until the 1971 marriage of Maria Willems to her Karl, who bore the same surname thanks to a distant common ancestor. From their union emerged the doubled name that the Weingut Willems-Willems proudly continues to use today.

Hofmann

In 1971, Klaus and Irene Hofmann converted what had to date been a mixed agricultural operation into a dedicated winegrowing estate. Although their son Jürgen discovered his passion for his parents' business relatively late, his unwavering dedication more than made up for any tardiness. A degree in viniculture was followed by a return to the family estate in 1997/98. He invested in new cellar technology, concentrated the growing areas to the best sites and planted traditional varieties in the vineyards around his home town of Appenheim
